SAFE WALKS TO SCHOOL
As of May 2007 there are two initiatives in progress for creating walking paths for Bethel area school students; · Davis Park to Telstar would provide a pathway south from the Davis Park parking area following the general course of Sunset Road on to the Telstar campus. Proposed Mason Street sidewalks in Bethel village would connect Crescent Park campus with Broad Street sidewalks. |

The May 3, 2007, edition of The Bethel Citizen carried an article about the Mason Street sidewalk program.
The Maine Safe Routes to School Program has offered $96,460 to Bethel for the purpose of sidewalk construction along Mason Street to benefit Crescent Park students.
The town’s annual town meeting in June 2007 will vote on an article to accept this grant and construct a Mason Street sidewalk.
Work on the new sidewalk could begin in late summer. |
