On October 8, 2005 the Androscoggin River Recreation Bridge opened connecting Mayville and Bethel north of the Androscoggin with the Bethel Pathway.

The Bethel Trails Committee received a $29,000 grant in April 2006 from the Maine Recreational Trails Program to extend the Bethel Pathway to the North Road.  For recent progress turn to Key Projects or to Trail News.

A safe walk to school escorted by volunteer parents was organized to demonstrate need for Bethel village sidewalks. From expressions on their faces, the kids enthusiastically took to the idea.  Barbara Russell, SAD 44 Health Coordinator heads the Bethel Area Trails effort to achieve safe walks to school in Bethel.
