Stanley Steamers Visit Bethel

Bethel Maine History  -  Events—Stanley Steamers

The Bethel Historical Society hosts a variety of summer events. On the weekend of August 13, 2011, a group of Stanley Steamer fans were touring the mountains and would pass through Bethel. They had made arrangements to stop at the Historical Society—so that the Steamer folks could take in  a guided tour of the village’s historic buildings.

Steamer on the left was first to arrive on Saturday morning. As you can see it looks like a larger regular powered roadster of the 1920 vintage. The owner was from Littleton, Mass.

Lower left: a view of the Steamer’s cockpit shows that the driver’s controls and dashboard appear similar to a gas powered car.

Car to the left is the vehicle shown on a ride through the nearby streets of Bethel village. It is a 1910 vehicle property of the Stanley Museum in Kingfield, Maine.

And here is a view of Main Street in Bethel as the museum Stanley Steamer rolls up Bethel’s Main Street. Blue building seen in the middle foreground is Ruthies and Bethel Village Motel

Vermont Steamer is parked on the Bethel Historical Society lawn on display for the curious public while the owners take the walking tour.  This car probably better fits the image many of us have about how Stanley Steamers appeared during the core Steamer years.
