Bethel Grange Holds Its Last Meeting—Dec 19, 1940
December 19, 1940
Bethel Grange, No. 56 held its last meeting before surrendering its charter, Jan., 1st on Thursday evening, Dec., 19th with the Worthy Master Herman Mason in the chair.
(Bethel Historical Society sources indicate that Bethel Grange organized in 1875.)
Before the meeting a “pot luck” supper was served to a total of eighteen people.
Following the supper the Master called the meeting to order. Officers absent at roll call were Chaplain, Treasurer, Gate Keeper, Ceres and Flora.
Brother Gerard S. Williams and Sister Gertie F. Bartlett were elected committee to serve with Brother Fred Clark as chairman.
There were eighteen members including four members from Bear River Grange and two from Alder River Grange present at the final meeting of Bethel Grange.
The Grange granted demits to 31 of its members who were in good standing in their dues.
During the Lecturer’s program Barbara Coolidge presided at the piano. Literary program was as follows: Singing of Christmas carols by all; remarks by Brother and Sister Lon Wight of Bear River Grange; remarks by Brother John Howe of Alder River Grange and the Steward, Assistant Steward and Master of Bethel Grange.
The Secretary served a treat of Christmas candy to all who cared for it at the close of the program.
At the close of the meeting a short social hour was enjoyed by all.
