Text Box: The Millennium sculpture/ "Life in Balance", sited next to the Bethel Post Office on Main Street, was unveiled on Mollyockett Day, July 15, 2000.
Funded by an appropriation at Bethel's June 1999 Town Meeting, it was designed by four fifth grade Crescent Park School pupils, Crystal Herrick, Bret Kendall, Erin Murphy and Caiti Shimamura, with the assistance of SAD 44 elementary art teacher, Leslie Rosenberg.  Artisan
Richard Duka crafted the ironwork sculpture at his Hanover, Maine studio.
The sculpture represents Bethel's millennium theme, "Making Time Count:  Then, Now and Always", for which the Town of Bethel was honored by the National Millennium Council and designated an Official Millennium Community in April 1999.
Other related special events which were part of Bethel's Millennium Community plans included the commemorative U.S. Postal cancellation and re-dedication of the Post Office on June 17, 1999, the planting of flowers next to the newly renovated Post Office building, and the commemorative brick sidewalk to be installed in front of the Town office/Cole Block in summer 2001.
Millennium Committee members were:  Janet Black, Dorothy Duddy, Ruth Grover, Deena Guillet, Rebecca. Kendall, Ed Rosenberg, Leslie Rosenberg and Sally Taylor.
