1890 Milestones:

 

Public water and  fire protection installed for Bethel Hill.

 

2d Congregational Church organization dissolved.

 

Bethel population gained 132 persons in 1890 census.

 

Wild River Lumber Co. formed by Vermont group.

 

 

 

1890 Highlights of the Bethel Area

· New Bethel water system installed.

· Town erects corn factory building by rail depot.

· Voters turn down proposal to revert to district school system.

· The Bethel Water Company paid $1500 to the Grand Trunk Railroad. It was the largest bill ever paid at the Bethel station.

· Moses A. Mason in Mayville becomes genial host of a trotting park.

· Fund raising by Congregational Church for Garland Memorial Chapel.

· Vermont entrepreneurs form Wild River Lumber Company—buy land in Maine and New Hampshire.
